Welcome!

With its vibrant international outlook, Canada’s Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, Hamilton, Ontario is currently developing ongoing partnerships with several institutions in China—-primarily with China Youth University for Political Sciences (Beijing) and Siyuan Vocational University (Xi’an).
Many faculty, officials, and students in both countries are intrigued by these educational linkages—-and seek more in-depth information about them. This “China Cultural Toolkit” is, in part, an attempt to provide some of that material——especially for Canadians planning to teach at one of Mohawk’s campuses in China.
Moreover—-and because this website is one, non-Chinese Canadian faculty member’s impression of a complex scene in China, witnessed over a year 2007-2008, and several shorter trips before and since—-the material may inevitably raise more questions than it answers…but the journey, as always, is more telling than the destination. With much to learn along the way.

In sum—-and with Mohawk’s three strategic priorities in mind (quality, innovation, sustainability)——this contemporary “China Cultural Toolkit” will contribute to a deeper and more sensitive understanding of the background of internationally educated Chinese students who form a rapidly growing sector of Mohawk’s population.
In this way, with an appreciation of “difference” the site hopes to enhance the college’s commitment to embrace diversity, promote respect and foster academic excellence.
